Héphaïstos

Corten steel furniture for the patio and backyard, chosen by use

Planting and screening

Corten outdoor furniture is simplest to choose by what it has to do, and planting usually comes first: a planter or a pot on the patio, a bottomless raised bed in the yard so the roots can reach the soil. Thalie, in 2 mm (about 0.08-inch) Corten steel, square or rectangular up to 2,000 mm long (about 79 inches), stands on four built-in legs: water drains underneath and the planting gains height. To divide a space, a perforated panel draws a boundary without closing it in; Aquilon, cut with circles, filters sightlines instead of blocking them. If it serves as a screen, have its anchoring and wind load checked by a professional.

Water and light

For water, the choice is between motion and calm. Our fountains Alban, Elio and Nereida send water up in a jet, over a rim or down a cascade, and water walls let it fall in a sheet; Ondine, a round 3 mm (about 0.12-inch) basin supplied without a pump or lighting, holds still water from 1,000 to 2,500 mm across (about 39 to 98 inches). For light, the lights and lanterns collection runs from flame lanterns that hold a candle or a decorative fire to the Luminus LED bollard along a path. Wall lights, pendants and the floor lamp intended for indoors come with the protective varnish, which greatly reduces rust transfer without ruling it out: under the floor lamp, a light floor is still best protected.

Fire, grilling and firewood

Each fire feature runs on the fuel listed on its product page: bioethanol for Nyx, Pyrros, Ignis and Pharos, wood for the other fire pits and fire bowls, fire tables and outdoor fireplaces. Héphaïstos, a square fire table in 3 mm (about 0.12-inch) steel, sits low at 280 mm (about 11 inches) so the flame stays in view of everyone seated around it; it is not meant for cooking. For grilling, Vulcain surrounds a wood fire with a wide cooking ring and keeps logs in its open base. Extra firewood goes in a firewood rack such as the open-front two-tier model, 600 to 1,500 mm long (about 24 to 59 inches), where the logs can dry.

FAQ

Can Corten steel furniture go by the pool?

Yes, with two rules: keep it back from regular splashes of chlorinated or salt water, and choose the varnished finish where the model offers it, which greatly reduces runoff on light coping without ruling it out, so keep spacers or a drip tray beneath the piece. Where a piece will be in direct contact with pool water, or on an oceanfront property exposed to salt spray, our powder-coated aluminum pieces are the better choice, since they do not rust.

Do the tables and chairs go outside?

No. The Orphée dining table, the Eurydice chairs, the Hestia armchair and the Dorian and Silas coffee tables are indoor pieces, delivered with the protective varnish, which strongly reduces rust transfer to floors without ruling it out; we recommend felt pads under the feet. On the patio, people gather around a fire table such as Héphaïstos or the Vulcain BBQ instead.

Which Corten pieces can be varnished?

Planters, pots, screens, fountains, water walls, basins, firewood racks and the outdoor electric lights all offer the protective varnish as an option on their product page; even varnished, Corten steel can still leave run-off and stain floors and terraces. Fire pits, fire tables, outdoor fireplaces and the Vulcain BBQ stay unvarnished, the finish that suits the heat of a fire. Indoor tables, seating and lighting always leave the workshop varnished.

A natural patina

Weathering steel develops a warm patina that changes with exposure. Runoff may mark pale surfaces. A protective clear varnish is optional on selected models; even varnished, Corten steel can still leave rust run-off and stain pale floors and terraces.

Corten steel furniture: frequently asked questions

Which sizes are available?

Each product page lists the available dimensions and options. Bespoke sizes require an assessment.

Can Corten steel stain paving?

Runoff can carry patina residue. Protect pale paving and check whether the model offers an optional protective varnish, which greatly reduces runoff without ruling it out.

How should I prepare for delivery?

Check the terms for your address, access routes and the handling equipment needed for your chosen piece.

Is Corten steel painted?

Cortenys keeps the natural patina of Corten steel. An optional protective clear varnish is available on selected pieces; even varnished, Corten steel can still leave run-off and stain floors and terraces, so we recommend protecting pale surfaces.
