Choosing a Corten steel water basin
Still water, three shapes
A Corten steel water basin does not move the water: it holds it, so the surface becomes a mirror for the sky and the planting. Sélène is a low, wide water bowl that seems to float above the ground, offered in five diameters from 600 to 1,500 mm (about 24 to 59 inches). Ondine is a round basin, 500 mm (about 20 inches) high, in four diameters from 1,000 to 2,500 mm, at home on a lawn as well as near a pool. Narcisse is a rectangular reflecting pool in 3 mm Corten steel, offered in 12 sizes up to 4,000 mm long (about 13 feet). For moving water, see our fountains and water features and water walls.
A basin on its own, or paired
Our basins are delivered without a pump or lighting, by design. On its own, each becomes a reflecting pool, for a patio, a courtyard or the middle of the lawn. Ondine can also take a pump and a water feature of your choosing, and Narcisse becomes the receiving basin for one of our water blades with a pump chosen for your project. Prepare a firm, level base for the weight of the basin once filled, and check access to the intended spot before delivery.
Patina and pale stone
Each basin arrives already dressed in the Cortenys signature patina, applied in our workshop, and its earth-toned walls give the water a dark, mineral depth. Keep the water clean and renewed, never stagnant. Around light-colored stone or a pool deck, a bed of gravel protects the surface; the optional protective varnish greatly reduces runoff without ruling it out.
FAQ
Does a Corten water basin come with a pump?
No. Sélène, Ondine and Narcisse are delivered without a pump or LEDs. Ondine can take a pump of your choosing; Narcisse can receive a water blade.
Round or rectangular?
The round Sélène and Ondine soften a lawn or a patio; the rectangular Narcisse draws a straight line along a path, a wall or a terrace.
How deep is the water?
The height of each basin sets the limit: the shallow Sélène stands 87 to 205 mm high depending on the diameter, Ondine 500 mm, and Narcisse 500 or 600 mm depending on the size.

A natural patina
Weathering steel develops a warm patina that changes with exposure. Runoff may mark pale surfaces. A protective clear varnish is optional on selected models; even varnished, Corten steel can still leave rust run-off and stain pale floors and terraces.

Corten steel water basins: frequently asked questions
How should a Corten steel water basin be maintained?
Remove leaves and debris regularly, top up the water level in hot weather and renew the water when necessary. Before hard frosts, follow the model’s recommendations for draining and winter protection.
Which sizes are available?
Each product page lists the available dimensions and options. Bespoke sizes require an assessment.
Can Corten steel stain paving?
Runoff can carry patina residue. Protect pale paving and check whether the model offers an optional protective varnish, which greatly reduces runoff without ruling it out.
How should I prepare for delivery?
Check the terms for your address, access routes and the handling equipment needed for your chosen piece.
Is Corten steel painted?
Cortenys keeps the natural patina of Corten steel. An optional protective clear varnish is available on selected pieces; even varnished, Corten steel can still leave run-off and stain floors and terraces, so we recommend protecting pale surfaces.
