Choosing a Corten steel firewood rack
Columns, tiers or compartments
A Corten firewood rack keeps your wood in order and gives it real architectural presence, on a patio, against the house or right beside an outdoor fireplace. Maison Cortenys designs several families. The two- and three-story columns rise vertically and stand against a wall or beside a door. The tiered racks and the four-, six- and nine-compartment models spread the stack across an open front, from a compact Corten log holder to generous firewood storage. The frame on legs, in 3 mm Corten steel, lifts the wood off the ground; the cabinet without legs and Sylvain, an open hexagon of 920 x 385 x 800 mm (about 36 x 15 x 31 inches), stand directly on the ground.
When firewood becomes decor
Some models are as much about design as storage. Cœur Meum draws a heart-shaped silhouette. The Fortito Square Window, the rectangular Gemitus Window and the round Circulu Window frame the logs like a picture, on a deck, a patio or in the yard. Sylvain borrows the six sides of a honeycomb cell, so the stack reads as a sculpture of wood and steel. Apart from the frame on legs, all of these are made in 2 mm Corten steel.
Placement, airflow and patina
Choose a stable base and keep the logs within easy reach of the fire. The steel needs to dry out, just like the wood: clear away bark, leaves and damp debris that would hold water against it, and leave an air gap if the rack stands against a wooden wall or deck. Every piece arrives already dressed in the Cortenys signature patina, applied in our workshop; on light-colored pavers, a bed of gravel or small spacers protect the surface, and the protective varnish, optional on selected models, greatly reduces marks without ruling them out.
FAQ
Column or compartment firewood rack?
A column takes up little floor space and rises along a wall; compartment models hold more across their width and give rhythm to a façade.
Can a Corten firewood rack go indoors, next to the fireplace?
Talk to us before ordering: every Cortenys piece intended for indoors receives the protective varnish in our workshop, which strongly reduces rust transfer to floors and walls without ruling it out; we still recommend felt pads or a tray.
How much wood will it hold?
The dimensions of each version are listed on its product page. Compare them with how much wood you burn in a season and the space you have; for a bespoke size, we will study your project.

A natural patina
Weathering steel develops a warm patina that changes with exposure. Runoff may mark pale surfaces. A protective clear varnish is optional on selected models; even varnished, Corten steel can still leave rust run-off and stain pale floors and terraces.

Care and delivery
Follow the care instructions for the piece and avoid trapped moisture at its base. Check the stated lead time, delivery terms for your country and access to the intended position.

Corten steel firewood racks: frequently asked questions
Does an open firewood rack protect firewood from rain?
An open front lets air circulate and helps the wood dry, but does not guarantee that the logs stay dry in driving rain. Take the exposure into account: a position against a wall, under a roof overhang or an awning, protects the stack better.
Which sizes are available?
Each product page lists the available dimensions and options. Bespoke sizes require an assessment.
Can Corten steel stain paving?
Runoff can carry patina residue. Protect pale paving and check whether the model offers an optional protective varnish, which greatly reduces runoff without ruling it out.
How should I prepare for delivery?
Check the terms for your address, access routes and the handling equipment needed for your chosen piece.
Is Corten steel painted?
Cortenys keeps the natural patina of Corten steel. An optional protective clear varnish is available on selected pieces; even varnished, Corten steel can still leave run-off and stain floors and terraces, so we recommend protecting pale surfaces.
