Lining a pool, filling a corner
On a terrace by the water, Déméter draws the line: a Corten steel trough planter, 900 to 2000 mm in length, that can follow the length of a pool or split a terrace in two with a low hedge of grasses. Keep it back from the splashes and opt for the protective varnish, which strongly reduces run-off on pale coping stones, without ruling it out, so set the planter on spacers or small feet. Where two walls meet or a terrace ends in a point, the right-angled triangle of Iris fits the corner, and at an entrance Cybèle's cube, 400 to 700 mm a side in 1.5 mm steel or up to 1400 mm in 2 mm, frames a single olive tree.
Water in, water out
However often the planting is watered, the bottom of a planter box must never hold water: a drainage bed under a geotextile lets the surplus run out and keeps damp soil off the steel. Lifting the box slightly off the slab lets its underside dry as well. Small spacers do this discreetly, and Thalie, raised on four corner legs, is built that way, in 2 mm steel and up to 2000 mm long. Our planter guide also points to 2 mm for trees and large volumes, while 1.5 mm suits everyday sizes such as Iris and the smaller Cybèle.
One planting, one shape
Maïa keeps a low profile, 300 mm high, and splits its square into separate cells: each plant gets its own soil, so one can be changed without touching the others. When a tree should root into the ground itself, Rhéa and Gaïa, our bottomless planters, have no base at all, and a single statement plant may find a better home in one of our Corten steel pots. FAQ
Does the patina still form in a dry climate?
Yes, at its own pace. The patina tightens with each cycle of wetting and drying, so in dry air it matures more slowly than in a damp, maritime garden. That matters little here: each planter box is patinated and checked in our workshop before it leaves, and without varnish its tones keep deepening gently over the years.
Can a Corten planter box face the sea?
Not facing the spray: salt settles on the steel and keeps the patina from stabilising, and in a dry climate little rain comes to rinse it away. There, Cybèle, Déméter and the other designs exist in powder-coated aluminium. Which planter box fits a narrow terrace?
Déméter in its slimmest formats, 300 or 400 mm wide and 900 to 2000 mm long, set along a railing or a wall, where it takes up little floor space. Thalie, raised on its legs, keeps the paving visible beneath it and makes a small terrace feel lighter. Check the weight of the chosen size on its product page before planting.

Start with the plants: their growth at maturity sets the volume of soil required. Then check the weight of the planter box once filled, the load capacity of the surface and the space to move around it.

Can Corten steel stain paving?
Runoff can carry patina residue. Protect pale paving and check whether the model offers an optional protective varnish, which greatly reduces runoff without ruling it out.
