The spirit of the collection
Cortenys designs three. The rectangular water basin comes in six sizes, from 1250 × 800 to 3000 × 2000 mm; the round basin, in four diameters, from 1000 to 2500 mm; both are crafted from 4 mm aluminium. The Sélène water bowl, wide and low, exists in five diameters, from 600 to 1500 mm. Powder-coated and sealed under a protective varnish, shown in black RAL 9005 at 30% gloss, they are deliberately delivered bare, with no pump or lighting. Designed in France and crafted in Europe to order, they turn still water into a piece of architecture.

Rectangular aluminium water basin, the architectural reflecting pool
The rectangular water basin is a volume with crisp edges, in six sizes: 1250 × 800 and 1500 × 1000 mm, 500 mm high; 2000 × 1000, 2500 × 1250, 3000 × 1500 and 3000 × 2000 mm, 600 mm high. The 2500 × 1250 mm size weighs 95 kg. Standing alone, it forms a reflecting pool, the point of calm on a terrace or a patio. It can also serve as the receiving basin for a Léandre water wall or a Célestin water blade, both delivered with their pump and LED lighting: it forms a single composition with them, and its generous depth does the rest.

Round aluminium water basin: a circle of calm water
The round basin draws a continuous line on the ground, with no angle and no break, in four diameters, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 mm, all 500 mm high. Its 4 mm aluminium resists corrosion; the 1500 mm size weighs 50 kg. Where the rectangle brings order, the circle gathers: at the centre of a courtyard or a terrace, it gives the garden a centre of gravity. Left as it is, this round water trough forms a circular reflecting pool; to bring the surface to life, it can take a pump and a water feature chosen for your project.

Aluminium water bowl: Sélène, a painting in water
Sélène is a wide, low water bowl whose gentle curve seems suspended above the ground. It comes in five diameters, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 and 1500 mm, with heights from 87 to 205 mm; the 1200 mm diameter weighs 6.6 kg. Its shallow depth and wide opening make it an ink-dark mirror, in which reflections appear as if in black glass. On a terrace, beside a swimming pool or at the heart of a garden, it is simply set down as it is; for a gentle movement, the pump of your choice can be paired with it.

An aluminium basin facing the sea or beside the pool
Our water basins know nothing of rust and resist corrosion. Right on the coast, the House recommends its powder-coated aluminium pieces, and for a piece in direct contact with pool water, they are the most serene choice: a water bowl on the coping, a reflecting pool that extends the swimming pool. Salt calls for regular rinsing with fresh water, with no abrasive products, no wire brush and no pressure washer at close range.

Placing an aluminium water basin
Look for the reflection first: at the end of a vista, at the foot of a lit wall, at the edge of a terrace, wherever the reflecting pool will find sky. Then choose a stable, level base sized for the weight of the water: a full basin is heavy, and ground that shifts will tilt the waterline. Keep access for filling and draining, and avoid placing it directly beneath trees, which fill the water with leaves.

Does an aluminium water basin need a pump?
No. The rectangular basin, the round basin and the Sélène water bowl are deliberately delivered bare, with no pump or lighting: they hold calm water that acts as a mirror. If you would like movement, each can take the pump of your choice, and the rectangular basin can serve as the receiving basin for Léandre or Célestin. What is the difference between a water basin and an aluminium fountain?
A fountain sets water in motion: a central jet, a cascade or a water wall, with its integrated LED lighting. A water basin leaves it still, for a silent mirror that reflects the sky. The two complement each other: a rectangular water basin can receive the fall of a water wall, and a water bowl set near a terrace extends the calm of a water garden.
What size of rectangular water basin should you choose?
Measure the available space and the way the basin will be seen. The 1250 × 800 and 1500 × 1000 mm sizes suit a patio or a terrace; those from 2500 × 1250 to 3000 × 2000 mm become the focal point of a garden. To receive a water wall or a water blade, check with the House that the dimensions match before ordering.
Does an aluminium water basin rust?
No. Aluminium does not rust. The rectangular and round basins, 4 mm thick, like the Sélène water bowl, resist corrosion, under a powder coating sealed with a protective varnish. They therefore suit seaside gardens as well as the surroundings of a swimming pool, with regular rinsing in fresh water.
Which colours are available for an aluminium water basin?
They are shown in black RAL 9005 at 30% gloss, which gives the water an inky depth. They also come in white 9016, grey 7016, blue 5001, yellow 1005, green 6018, red 3020 and orange 2004, and other shades from the RAL palette are offered on request, to match the reflecting pool to your façade or your paving.
How do you care for an aluminium water basin?
Remove leaves regularly and keep the water clear and renewed. For the surface, rinsing with fresh water and a soft sponge are enough, especially by the sea, where salt settles. Never use abrasive products, a wire brush or a pressure washer at close range.
