Vulcain is a fire pit barbecue in Corten steel, conceived as a hearth for gathering. At the centre, a real wood fire; all around it, a wide steel cooking ring that heats gently, on which to sear meat, fish and vegetables, plancha-style.

Care
Our Corten steel pieces receive the Cortenys signature patina in the workshop, before delivery: they never reach you bare, left to weather at home. Indoors, a protective varnish is essential; even varnished, the steel can still mark a light or porous floor, so we recommend protecting it. For everything else, follow the care recommendations for your piece and its finish.

A Corten steel barbecue built around the fire
A fire bowl ringed by a plancha
Vulcain is the Corten steel barbecue from Maison Cortenys. Logs burn in the middle; around the flames runs a broad steel ring that you cook on as you would on a plancha. The closer to the fire, the fiercer the heat: sear in the middle, finish gently further out, with meat, fish and vegetables all on the go at once. Fat runs off into the fire through small holes, so the ring stays easier to clean. If you are looking for a Corten steel fire pit BBQ rather than a conventional grill, this is the idea: the fire pit and the cooking surface in a single piece.
Choosing and placing your Corten BBQ
Vulcain comes in one size, 900 x 1070 mm, weighing 75 kg. Stand it on firm, level ground, away from anything sensitive to heat, and leave room to move around the ring. Beneath the fire bowl, the open base doubles as a log store. Two accessories complete the piece and are ordered separately: a cooking grate, for those who want a Corten steel fire pit with grill, and a protective lid. Fuel, whether wood, kindling or charcoal, is not included.
Patina and care
Vulcain arrives already dressed in the Cortenys signature patina, applied in our workshop, so it skips the grey and then bright orange stage of raw sheet steel. Around the fire, heat gently shifts the tones of the patina, a living trace of evenings outdoors. Like any Corten steel piece, it needs to dry out between showers: don't leave sodden ash in the fire bowl, avoid standing water and protect pale paving from run-off, for example with a bed of gravel. Made to order by a partner manufacturer in Europe, Vulcain comes with a two-year guarantee.
FAQ
Can you cook directly on Corten steel?
On Vulcain you cook on the cooking ring, which is designed for it, or on the optional grate; the fire bowl holds the fire. A Corten patina is not a cooking surface.
What fuel does it use?
The technical sheet specifies wood cooking. Fuel is not supplied with the barbecue.
Are the grate and lid included?
No. The cooking grate and the protective lid are separate accessories, ordered on their own.

At the centre, a real wood fire; all around it, a wide steel cooking ring that heats gently, on which to sear meat, fish and vegetables, plancha-style. The flame dances at the heart of the piece, while the open base keeps logs in reserve, within easy reach.

Heat radiates from the centre outwards and creates several cooking zones, intense near the flames and gentler towards the rim: you can grill, sear, roast or pan-fry, all at once. Small drainage holes let the fat run off towards the fire, for easier cleaning. Finished in the workshop with the Cortenys signature patina, in tones of earth, amber and deep rust, this Corten steel barbecue shows a raw, warm character that deepens over time. Two accessories complete it – a cooking grate and a protective lid – which are not supplied with the barbecue and are ordered separately.
