HeliosA Corten steel fire table brings together two pleasures once thought separate: sitting around a table and watching a fire. The hearth is set into the tabletop, the flame sits at the height of the seats, and the terrace finds its centre. Cortenys designs five of them. Helios, round, and Hephaestus, square, both crafted from 3 mm Corten steel, hold a wood fire at their heart. Etna, a long table with sloping sides, Taranis, with its off-centre hearth, and Pyrros, crossed by a line of bioethanol flame, belong to the Cortenys Creations. Designed in France, crafted in Europe by a partner manufacturer and made to order, every one arrives dressed in the Cortenys signature patina, applied in the workshop. Where one might expect a fire pit set on the ground, the House delivers a piece of furniture.

Round, square or elongated: choosing your Corten steel fire table
The shape of the table shapes the evening. Round, Helios places everyone at the same distance from the flame: no corners, no head of the table, and conversation flows freely. Square, Hephaestus sets a crisp-edged monolith at the centre of the outdoor living area; its seven formats range from a 900 mm square to a 1600 mm square, with a rectangular version of 1500 × 800 mm. Elongated, Etna, Taranis and Pyrros follow the line of a sofa or the edge of a terrace. Etna stretches its hearth along almost its entire length; Taranis pushes it to one end and leaves the rest of the top free for glasses and plates; Pyrros reduces it to a line of fire at the centre of a thick slab, with a serving surface on either side. Finally, measure the space available: around a fire table, people must be able to move freely and sit at a comfortable distance from the flame.

Taranis sets a round hearth at the end of a long top and leaves the rest to the table; Pyrros draws a line of bioethanol flame down the middle of a Corten steel slab.
Wood-burning or bioethanol fire table
Fuelled by wood, Helios, Hephaestus, Etna and Taranis offer the tall flame of long evenings, the crackle, and embers that hold their heat. Bioethanol, chosen for Pyrros, gives a more contained flame, with no smoke, no embers and no ash, simple to light and to put out: often the choice for town terraces, roof terraces and hospitality venues. In every case, fuel is not supplied with the table. Check the intended fuel and the instructions for use on each model’s product page, then choose according to the atmosphere you want, the upkeep you are happy with and local rules on outdoor fires.

A Corten steel fire table crafted as a collector’s piece
A hearth set into a tabletop forgives nothing: the slightest imprecision in a fold or a weld shows in the light of the flames. The House therefore works its fire tables as collector’s pieces. Helios and Hephaestus are crafted from 3 mm Corten steel, which gives them their solidity and their weight; their height of 280 mm was studied so that the fire stays within view once you are seated. Each table receives the Cortenys signature patina in the workshop, somewhere between earth, amber and deep rust: it arrives already dressed in colours that answer those of the flames, then gains depth with every fire. No logo, no plate: the patina is the signature. Every Corten fire table is guaranteed for two years.

Installing a fire table on a terrace
A Corten steel fire table is always installed outdoors, on a stable, level, non-combustible base: paving slabs, pavers or compacted gravel. Keep a clear space above and around the hearth, away from hedges, shade sails and anything flammable, and respect the safety clearances specified for the model. On pale paving, rain may carry a little rust run-off to the foot of the table during the first months; the patina delivered already applied limits it, and a bed of gravel or a dark surface makes it disappear from view. For a length, a height or a hearth conceived for a particular residential or hotel project, the House develops bespoke Corten steel fire tables, made in 3 to 10 weeks.

What is a Corten steel fire table?
It is a hearth set into a tabletop, sometimes called a fire pit table: you sit around it as you would around a table, and enjoy the flame from your chair. Where a fire pit is there to be gazed at, a fire table is there to be shared. At Cortenys, Helios and Hephaestus place a central hearth at the heart of a 3 mm Corten steel top; Etna, Taranis and Pyrros, three Creations of the House, stretch the fire into a line or move it off-centre to free up the table.
What is the difference between a fire table and a fire pit?
A fire pit is an open hearth, set on the ground or at seat height, which you surround with armchairs: think of the Vesta fire bowl or the Nyx fire pit. A fire table adds a tabletop around the flame, where you can put down a glass or a dish, and sets the fire at the centre of the outdoor living area. The two complement each other; our Corten steel fire pits are gathered on their own page.
What size of fire table should you choose?
Start with the number of seats and the space needed to move around. Helios comes in two diameters, 1000 and 1250 mm; Hephaestus in seven formats, from a 900 mm square to a 1600 mm square, including a rectangular 1500 × 800 mm version. For a large sofa or a long terrace, Etna (1600 to 2400 mm), Pyrros (1500 to 2200 mm) and Taranis (1800 to 2600 mm) each come in three lengths.
Wood-burning or bioethanol fire table: which should you choose?
Wood gives a tall flame, embers, radiant heat and the scent of long evenings: it is the fuel of Helios, Hephaestus, Etna and Taranis. Bioethanol, chosen for Pyrros, offers a flame without smoke or embers, easier to manage on a town terrace. Fuel is never supplied; each model’s product page sets out its use and instructions.
Can you cook on a Corten steel fire table?
Our fire tables are designed for the pleasure of the fire, not for cooking. To cook over a wood fire, the Vulcain fire pit barbecue, with its plancha-style cooking ring, was drawn for exactly that. The intended uses of each model are listed on its product page.
Where should a Corten steel fire table be installed?
Always outdoors, on stable, non-combustible ground, in a clear space, at a distance from plants, awnings, shade sails and any flammable material. Follow the safety clearances specified for the model and local rules on outdoor fires. On timber decking, ask the House for advice before installation.
How do you look after a Corten steel fire table?
Let the hearth cool completely before doing anything. With wood, empty the ashes regularly: when damp, they hold water against the metal. Out of season, keep rainwater from pooling in the hearth. No paint, no treatment: the Cortenys signature patina, delivered already applied, gains character with every fire. Avoid wire brushes and abrasive products.
Can a Cortenys fire table be made to measure?
Yes, depending on the model and the project. Send us the dimensions you have in mind, the site, the intended use and the fuel, with photographs or a plan if possible: the House assesses feasibility and sends you a quote. Allow 3 to 10 weeks for a bespoke piece and 2 to 5 weeks for a piece from the Classics. All are covered by the two-year Cortenys guarantee.
